use of the equipment of the digitalized telephone
network, especially the copper pair of the subscriber
line.
- Reduction
in costs due to simplified operation and maintenance
procedures.
Who
Can Avail Of This Service ? With
the introduction of state of the art digital technology in
the telecom network in India, a firm foundation has been
laid for provision of a range of new, powerful and modern
services through the integrated services digital network. The
services will be of a great significance for both business
and residential subscribers. The services will be available
through new technology exchanges . The ISDN connection will
be provided at the customer premises located within the
permissible distance from a new technology exchange or its
remote units.
How
is ISDN line superior to the phone line ?
- The
signal on the ISDN line -voice or data ,is sent in
digital mode. It therefore enjoys very high immunity
from the line noise- an invaluable technological
providing very high quality of service.
- The
signal level at subscriber 's terminal equipment is
independent of line length and line noise which further
enhances quality of reception. A significant advantage
over plain old telephone lines.
- An
ISDN subscriber can establish two simultaneous
independent calls which could be voice, data , image or
combination of any two whereas only one call is possible
on ordinary telephone lines.
- The
call set up time between two ISDN subscriber is
extremely short.
- ISDN
subscribers have full connectivity to all the other
analog subscribers both nationally and internationally .
ISDN supports a whole range of additional facilities. To
mention a few :
- Calling
line identification presentation ( CLIP)
- Multiple
subscriber Number (MSN)
- Terminal
Portability (TP)
ACCESS
TO INTERNET
ISDN subscribers can have access to internet with a higher
bandwidth of 64/128 kbps giving significantly improved
response time and quality of service compared to internet
quality of plain and analog telephone lines. When 64 kbps
bandwidth is used for internet, you can still make telephone
calls on the other channel , which is a big advantage ,
since internet connections are likely to occupy the line for
very long duration.
ISDN will also support a whole new set of additional
facilities called supplementary services.
